What is the Bokashi Composter ?
The Hozelock Pure Bokashi composter is a kitchen composter – a true revolution in the world of composting.
It is the ideal solution to reduce your kitchen waste with no unpleasant odour and creating useful plant fertiliser
in only 5 days. At the end of the process the remaining digestate breaks down rapidly into traditional compost or
can be added to a wormery. The Bokashi biological activator (1kg) allows the fermentation process and contains
friendly, eective microorganisms, which prevent putrefaction and the formation of unpleasant odours.

What’s suitable for disposal in Bokashi Composter ?
Nearly all biological waste can be disposed of in the Bokashi Organico bucket. We recommend reducing larger
chunks to smaller ones to make the fermentation process more eective.

Capacity: 16L
We do not recommend keeping the Bokashi bucket on the balcony (outdoors) as it could
be damaged by frost or even break. We advise against exposing the bucket to direct
sunlight. The Bokashi bucket can be kept on the kitchen counter top, in a cupboard or
pantry. We recommend keeping the bucket at room temperature.
Bokashi biological waste bran
Bokashi natural biological waste bran is a mixture
of bran and molasses, enriched with beneficial
microorganisms (lactic acid bacteria, yeasts,
photosynthetic organisms, Actinobacteria, and
enzymatically active fungi). This mixture enables
the fermentation process in the Bokashi bucket and
prevents decay of the waste. After the fermentation
process, the biological waste will have retained all
essential nutrients (particularly nitrogen) that would
have been lost in case of decay or rotting.
Typically 1Kg of Bokashi brand will last for 4 months
use, although this varies according to the number of
people in the household and the diet of its members
(vegetarian or not). After opening, the activator can be
stored for 1 year in a dry place.

Waste mixture in the Bokashi bucket, the Bokashi

How to use it ?
Before first use, ensure the valve is pointing to the “CLOSE” sign.
5. On top of each layer, scatter
20ml of the Bokashi activator.
6. Cover the Bokashi bucket
with the lid, making sure there
is a tight seal. The bucket has
to remain closed at all times.
It must only be opened when
disposing of waste. Bokashi is an
anaerobic process, therefore the
less air the better.
7. Drain the fermentation liquid
every 3 to 5 days. The liquid fertiliser
should be diluted to a 1/100 dosage
(10 ml liquid fertiliser for 1L water).
CAUTION! Depending on the
waste, the air still present in
the composter, the degree of
hydration etc. the liquid fertiliser
may take longer to be extracted.
When used for the first time,
fermentation liquid will form
after 14 days.
8. When the bucket is full,
scatter 40ml of activator over
the final layer.
9. Leave the composter sealed and closed for 14 days, recovering the
liquid fertiliser every 3 – 5 days.
NOTE! After 2 weeks, the waste will not change in appearance,
however it is chemically changed. The digestate content is rich
in essential nutrients, vitamins, and minerals and will decay 3 – 5
weeks after being disposed of.
The content is ready when the smell is like vinegar.

Products of the fermentation process
1 - Fermentation liquid
Fermentation is a natural process of decomposition of biological waste by means of microorganisms, which does
not result in a foul smell. Waste decomposes rather than rots; therefore, it retains its vitamins and minerals. The
Bokashi bran, when added to the composter every day, will aid the decomposition of the waste, as well as any
pesticides and any other harmful substances into environmentally friendly matter.
Several utilisations
z Diluted fermentation liquid:
Use it as fertiliser for house plants and garden:
- 1 : 100 (10ml of liquid per 1l of water) for watering plants once a week or less
- 1 : 200 (10ml of liquid per 2l of water) for frequent daily watering of plants (several times a week)
z Undiluted fermentation liquid:
Use undiluted liquid to sanitise and remove odours from drains and septic tanks.
2 - Compost – digestate
The resulting compost is called « digestate ». The waste will not change in appearance, however it is chemically
changed.
This transformation is called methane fermentation or anaerobic digestion : which is the decomposition of
organic matter thanks to bacteria that act in the absence of air. The mixture of fermented biological waste is a
first-grade base for compost which can be used to fertilise edible plants. (Do not place the digestate directly on
plants or plant roots.)
Maintenance
Bucket
After emptying, we recommend rinsing the bucket, the lid and the release valve under running water. Do not use
any detergents as these may destroy the active microorganisms and disrupt the natural environment within the
bucket.
Release valve
Fill the empty bucket with water, turn the release valve to “OPEN” position and let the water flow through the
valve. When the water coming through the release valve is clear, close the valve by turning it to the “CLOSE”
position.
Extended cover
Guarantee period and scope:
- We guarantee the product for 2 years (Compulsory
Cover extended to 2 years)
- On failure to present proof of the date of purchase of
the products, the Warranty is eective from the date
of manufacture of the product (stated underneath the
product).
Legal Warranty
- The Mandatory Cover, the conditions of which are
recalled hereinabove, does not replace the Legal
Warranty.
Warranty disclaimer:
This Warranty does not cover:
- Normal wear parts: seals, valves, handle, nozzle,
piping, carrying straps, rod and lever,
- Modified products,
- Products whose use contradicts the technical
recommendations stipulated in the User Manuals
accompanying the product,
- Products used improperly,
- Products not undergoing regular maintenance,
- Product deteriorations (impacts, falls, crushing, etc.)
originating from negligence, improper maintenance,
improper use or abnormal use of the product,
Warranty activation:
- We ask that you keep proof of purchase (invoice
or legible till receipt), as this will be requested on
activation of the Contractual Warranty.
- A product under warranty that has been repaired
or replaced, remains guaranteed for the remaining
duration and under the original conditions of
the Contractual Warranty granted at the time of
purchase. All returned products become the property
of HOZELOCK-EXEL when replaced by a new product.

Qu’est ce que le composteur BOKASHI ?
Le composteur Bokashi à marque Hozelock Pure est un composteur de cuisine, véritable révolution dans le monde
du compostage : la solution idéale pour réduire vos ordures ménagères. Fini les vers à compost, il vous permet
d’obtenir à la fois un engrais liquide (en 5 jours) et un compost riche.
L’activateur biologique Bokashi (1 kg) permet le processus de fermentation, les microorganismes ecaces
(présents dans l’activateur ) empêchent la putréfaction et la formation des odeurs désagréables.
Chaque boîte contient :

Que pouvez vous mettre dans votre composteur Bokashi ?
On peut déposer dans le Composteur Bokashi presque tous les déchets biologiques. Il est recommandé de couper
les aliments en petits morceaux, afin que la fermentation soit plus ecace, plus rapide.

Il est recommandé de la déposer à température ambiante. Nous ne recommandons
pas de la déposer à l’extérieur, parce que le froid peut l’endommager et le casser.
L’exposition directe au soleil est déconseillée.
L’Activateur Bokashi
L’activateur Bokashi est un mélange de son de blé,
mélangé de mélasse (sucre et eau) enrichi avec les
microorganismes utiles (bactéries lactiques, levures,
les organismes de photosynthèse, actinomycètes et
champignons enzymatiquement actives). Ce mélange
permet de déclencher le processus de fermentation
et d’empêcher la pourriture des déchets organiques.
Après l’achèvement du processus de fermentation,
les déchets conservent tous les nutriments essentiels
(spécialement l’azote), qui auraient disparu dans le
processus de pourriture.
La durée moyenne d’utilisation du sac de 1Kg est de
4 mois cela varie en fonction du nombre de personnes
dans le foyer et du régime alimentaire de ses membres.
Après ouverture, l’activateur peut-être conservé
pendant 1 ans à l’abri de l’humidité.
z AVERTISSEMENT !
Le mélange activateur bokashi et le liquide
de fermentation ne sont pas appropriés à la
consommation !

Comment l’utiliser ?
Avant la première utilisation, vérifier que le robinet soit en position fermé : “CLOSE”.
5. Sur chaque couche de déchets,
répandre uniformément 20ml
d’activateur Bokashi.
6. Mettre le couvercle, s’assurer
de l’étanchéité, et le laisser tout
le temps fermé. Il ne faut l’ouvrir
que lorsque vous voulez jeter vos
déchets. C’est une fermentation
anaérobique, moins il y a d’air,
mieux ce sera.
7. Tous les 3 à 5 jours, récupérer le
liquide de fermentation, en tournant
le robinet sur « Open » . Le liquide
doit être dilué à 1 / 100 ( 10 ml de
liquide de fermentation pour 1 L
d’eau) pour fertiliser vos plantes.
ATTENTION! En fonction des
déchets, de l’air encore présent
dans le composteur, du degré
d’hydratation, etc... le «liquide»
peut mettre plus de temps à être
extrait. Jusqu’à 2 semaines.
8. Lorsque le seau Bokashi est
plein, répandre uniformément
40ml d’activateur Bokashi.
9. Le laisser fermer pendant 14 jours. Continuer tous les 3/5 jours
à ouvrir le robinet pour récupérer le liquide de fermentation.
ATTENTION! Après 2 semaines, les déchets ne changent pas
visuellement, mais le contenu est totalement transformé
chimiquement, un contenu riche en nutriment, en vitamines et en
minéraux. Le contenu est prêt quand vous avez une odeur aigre
douce.

Le résultat du processus de fermentation
1 - Liquide de fermentation
Le liquide est obtenu grâce à une fermentation, processus naturel de décomposition des déchets. Ce processus est
obtenu grâce à l’action des microorganismes, présents dans l’activateur.
Les déchets se décomposent, ils ne pourrissent pas et de ce fait ils conservent toutes les vitamines et substances
minéraux, qui seront utiles pour fertiliser vos plantes.
Plusieurs utilisations
z Liquide de fermentation dilué :
Nutriment idéal pour l’arrosage des plantes d’intérieur et de jardin:
Dosage recommandé :
- 1 / 100 (10 ml de liquide dans 1 L d’eau) pour un arrosage une fois par semaine ou moins
- 1/ 200 (10 ml de liquide dans 2L d’eau) pour un arrosage fréquent (plusieurs fois par semaine)
z Liquide de fermentation non dillué :
Vous pouvez l’utiliser pour l’entretien de vos canalisations, permet de diminuer le risque d’évier bouché, et de faire
disparaître les odeurs désagréables.
2 - Compost – digestat
Le compost obtenu est nommé digestat, visuellement les déchets n’ont pas changé, mais la transformation a eu
lieu. La transformation s’appelle la méthanisation : Décomposition des matières organiques grâce à des bactéries
qui agissent en l’absence d’air.
Vous obtenez une base extraordinaire pour la préparation ultérieure de compost, appropriée pour votre potager.
Entretien
Seau
Après avoir vidé votre composteur Bokashi, rincez à l’eau le seau, le couvercle et le robinet. N’utilisez pas de
détergents, car ils peuvent détruire les microorganismes ecaces essentiels au fonctionnement de votre
composteur.
Robinet
Verser de l’eau dans le seau Bokashi, avec le robinet en position ouvert “OPEN”, faire couler de l’eau à travers le
robinet. Lorsque l’eau du robinet n’est plus colorée, fermer le robinet en le tournant vers le signe “CLOSE”.
Garantie
Durée et étendue de la Garantie :
-A défaut de preuve de la date d’achat des produits, la
Garantie court à compter de la date de fabrication du
produit (reprise sous le produit).
La Garantie Contractuelle ne comprend pas :
-Les produits modifiés,
-Les produits dont il est fait un usage abusif,
-Les dégradations du produit (chocs, chutes,
écrasement, etc...) provenant de négligence, de défaut
d’entretien, d’utilisation défectueuse ou anormale du
produit,
Fonctionnement de la Garantie :
-Un produit sous garantie qui a été réparé ou remplacé,
reste garanti pour la durée restante et aux conditions
initiales de la Garantie Contractuelle octroyée lors de
l’achat.
-Nous garantissons nos produits pendant une durée de
2 ans à compter de leur date d’achat.
Exclusions de la Garantie contractuelle :
-Les pièces d’usure normale
-Les produits dont il est fait usage en infraction avec
les recommandations techniques figurant dans les
Notices d’Utilisation jointes au produit,
-Les produits n’ayant pas fait l’objet d’un entretien
régulier,
-Le remplacement d’un composant, suite à une perte
-Nous vous demandons de conserver votre preuve
d’achat (facture ou ticket de caisse lisible), qui vous
sera demandé en cas de mise en oeuvre de la Garantie
Contractuelle.
Tout produit retourné devient propriété d’HOZELOCK-
EXEL, quand il est remplacé par un produit neuf.

Welk keukenafval kunt u composteren in de Bokashi Composter ?
Bijna al het biologisch afval kan worden verwerkt in de Bokashi composter. Wij adviseren om grotere stukken afval
kleiner te maken om het fermentatieproces eectiever te maken.
Geschikt afval:
Rauw en gekookte groente en fruit
Citrus en bananenschil,
Bereid voedsel,
Gekookt en rauw vlees en vis inclusief kleine botjes,
Kaas, yoghurt,

In verband met de kans op beschadiging of breuk door vorst adviseren wij de Bokashi
Composter niet buiten te gebruiken. Wij adviseren daarnaast om de emmer niet aan
direct zonlicht bloot te stellen.
Bokashi biologische activator
Bokashi natuurlijke biologische activator is een
mix van zemelen en melasse, verrijkt met nuttige
micro –organismen (melkzuurbacteriën, gisten,
fotosynthetische organismen, Actino-bacteriën en
enzymatisch actieve schimmels). Met dit mengsel kan
het fermentatieproces in de Bokashi-emmer worden
gestart en verrotting van het afval worden voorkomen.
Na het fermentatieproces behoudt het biologisch afval
alle essentiële voedingsstoen (met name stikstof) die
bij een verrottingsproces verloren zouden zijn gegaan.
De gemiddelde gebruiksduur van de zak van 1
kg is 4 maanden, afhankelijk van de grootte van
het huishouden en het voedingspatroon van de
gezinsleden. Na opening kan de activator 1 jaar op een
droge plaats worden bewaard.
z WAARSCHUWING !
Het afvalmengsel uit de Bokashi emmer en
de vloeibare meststof mogen nooit worden
ingenomen !

Hoe te gebruiken ?
Controleer voor gebruik of de afvoerkraan gesloten is.
5. Verdeel 20ml Bokashi
activator over elke nieuwe laag
afval
6. Sluit de emmer luchtdicht af
met de deksel. Laat de emmer
zoveel mogelijk gesloten, open
deze alleen voor het toevoegen
van nieuw afval. Omdat het hier
een anaerobe proces betreft is
het verstandig de hoeveelheid
zuurstof zoveel mogelijk te
beperken.
7. Tap de gefermenteerde vloeistof
elke 3 tot 5 dagen af. Gebruik deze
vloeibare meststof verdund 1/100
(10 ml vloeistof of 1 liter water)
LET OP! Afhankelijk van de
soort afval, eventueel nog
aanwezige lucht in de composter,
de vochtigheidsgraad etc. kan
het langer duren (tot 14 dagen)
voordat de vloeibare meststof
kan worden afgetapt.
8. Verdeel 40 ml activator over
het afval in de emmer indien
de emmer vol is.
9. Laat de emmer daarna luchtdicht afgesloten 14 days staan. Tap
iedere 3 – 5 dagen de vloeibare meststof af.
LET OP! CAUTION! Na 2 weken is het afval niet uiterlijk veranderd.
Het is echter chemisch veranderd en bevat grote hoeveelheden
essentiele voedingststoen, vitaminen en mineralen.
De inhoud van de emmer is klaar als deze een geur heeft die lijkt
op augurk of azijn.

composter in uw tuin ,
Om uw tuincompost te verrijken.

Producten van het fermentatieproces
1 - Fermentatievloeistof
Fermentatie is een natuurlijk decompositieproces van biologisch afval door micro-organismen waarbij geen
onaangename geuren vrijkomen. Het afval wordt gecomposteerd in plaats van dat er verrotting optreedt,
hierdoor blijven vitaminen en mineralen behouden.
Overige toepassingen
z Verdunde fermentatievloeistof:
Te gebruiken als meststof voor kamer,- of tuinplanten:
- 100 ml ( 10 ml vloeistof per 1 liter water) voor bewatering 1 x per week of minder.
- 200 ml ( 10 ml vloeistof per 2 liter water) voor frequente bewatering van uw planten (meerdere keren
per week)
z Onverdunde fermentatievloeistof:
Gebruik onverdunde vloeistof voor het reinigen van leidingen of een septische tank.
2 - Compost – digestaat
LHet verkregen compost wordt « digestaat » genoemd, het afval zal niet uiterlijk veranderen maar is intern
chemisch totaal veranderd.
Deze transformatie wordt methaanfermentatie of anaerobe vergisting genoemd: afbraak van organisch
materiaal door bacteriën in afwezigheid van zuurstof. Het mengsel van gefermenteerd biologisch afval is een
eersteklas basis voor compost die kan worden gebruikt om bijvoorbeeld eetbare planten te bemesten.
Onderhoud
Emmer
Nadat u de emmer hebt geleegd adviseren wij met stromend water te reinigen. Gebruik geen schoonmaakmiddelen
aangezien deze de actieve micro-organismen kunnen vernietigen en de natuurlijke omgeving in de emmer kunnen
verstoren.
Afvoerkraan
Vul de lege emmer met water, zet de afvoerkraan open en laat schoon water door de afvoerkraan spoelen. Op het
moment dat het water door de afvoerkraan helder is kan de kraan weer worden gesloten.
Contractuele Garantie
Duur en omvang van de garantie:
- Wij garanderen onze producten voor 2 jaar en dit
vanaf de datum van aankoop (Verplichte contractuele
garantie verlengd tot 2 jaar).
- Bij gebreke aan bewijs van de datum van aankoop
van producten, loopt de garantie vanaf de datum van
fabricage van het product (vermeldt op het product).
Uitsluiting van de Contractuele Garantie:
- De normale slijtdelen: dichtingen, kleppen,
handgreep, spuitstuk, slangen, draagriemen, drijfstang
en de zwengel,
- Gemodificeerde producten,
- De producten waarvan het gebruikt in tegenspraak
is met de technische aanbevelingen van de
Gebruikershandleiding van het product,
- De producten die niet worden gebruikt voor het
beoogd gebruik,
- De producten die geen regelmatig onderhoud hebben
ondergaan,
- Productslijtage (schokken, vallen, breken, enz ...)
vanwege verwaarlozing, gebrek aan onderhoud,
gebrekkige of abnormaal gebruik van het product,
De contractuele garantie geldt niet voor:
- Wij vragen dat u uw aankoopbewijs (factuur of
leesbare kasticket) te bewaren, die in het geval van de
toepassing van de contractuele garantie zal worden
gevraagd.
- Een product onder garantie dat is hersteld of
vervangen, blijft gegarandeerd voor de resterende
looptijd en de oorspronkelijke voorwaarden van de
contractuele garantie verleend bij de aankoop. Elk
product dat is geretourneerd wordt eigendom van
HOZELOCK-EXEL wanneer het wordt vervangen door
een nieuw product.
Wettelijke garantie
- De contractuele garantie, waarvan de voorwaarden
hierboven worden
uiteengezet, is geen vervanging van de juridische
garantie.
