Front Panel
A INPUT 1/2 jacks
These inputs are intended for microphones with XLR connectors or instruments with 1/4"
jacks. When connecting devices to the INPUT jacks on both the front and rear panels, the
input on the front panel takes precedence and will automatically be active.
B [GAIN 1]/[GAIN 2] knobs
Controls the preamplification of the signal being applied to INPUT 1/2 on the front/rear
panel.
While recording, make sure to record at the highest level possible (without distortion or clipping) to
get the greatest benefit from the wide dynamic range of the 24-bit converter. Always remember
that a properly recorded, clean take is far more valuable than having to use the best corrective
plug-in to fix an inferior take.
C SIGNAL and CLIP LED
Provides visual level monitoring of the signal to be recorded on INPUT 1/2 on the front/rear
panel. The lower blue LED indicates the presence of a signal, while the upper red one indicates
an overload of the input converter.
D [+48V] switch
Supplies +48 V phantom power to INPUT 1/2 on the front panel. Turn this switch on if you are
connecting a condenser microphone that requires external +48 V power.
Connectors and controls
Observe the following precautions when turning on phantom power.
Make sure that the PHANTOM switch is off when phantom power is not needed.
Make sure that no equipment other than phantom-powered microphones is
connected to the inputs 1 and 2 jacks on the front panel when turning phantom
power on. Applying phantom power to equipment other than phantom-
powered microphones can damage the equipment. The exception to this rule is
balanced dynamic microphones, which can safely be left connected while
phantom power is applied to input jacks 1 and 2.
To minimize the possibility of speaker damage, turn phantom power on ONLY
while your power amplifier or powered speakers are switched off. It’s also a good
idea to turn the mixers output controls — [MASTER] knob and HEADPHONE
LEVEL knob — all the way down when turning phantom power on.

E [MASTER] knob
Controls the levels of the analog outputs (OUTPUT 1/2 or OUTPUT 3/4). The output pair to be
controlled can be selected via the Push function (OUTPUT 1/2 or OUTPUT 3/4 or both jacks).
The output pair currently being controlled can be monitored by the MAIN/MONITOR LED. In
addition, pressing and holding the knob for 2 seconds or more will mute the channels cur-
rently being controlled. This can be used to switch back and forth between two monitor
speaker sets for a direct comparison. This function is also available via the GO46 Control
Panel. (See page 20.)
F MAIN and MONITOR LED
Indicates the output pair currently being controlled by the master or muted. The MAIN LED
corresponds to OUTPUT 1/2 jacks, MONITOR LED to OUTPUT 3/4. The following overview
describes the operation and displays:
G HEADPHONE LEVEL knob
Adjusts the output level of the PHONES jack.
H PHONES jack
Output for a 1/4" stereo headphone jack. The signal from OUTPUT 3/4 on the rear panel is
always available at the PHONES jack. The actual signal available there depends on the routing,
which you can set up to suit your needs in the GO46 Control Panel. (See page 20.)

Rear Panel
I INPUT 1/2 jacks
The GO46 System features two high-quality analog mono inputs. The connections have been
designed for balanced/unbalanced phone 1/4" jacks. The gain for these inputs can also be set
using the GAIN knobs on the front panel. When connecting devices to the INPUT jacks on
both the front and rear panels, the input on the front panel takes precedence and will auto-
matically be active.
J INSERT 1/2 jacks
These are 1/4" stereo headphone jacks for channel insert ins and outs. External effects such as
compressors and effect processors can be inserted into the recording path before the signal is
sent to the A/D converter.
K OUTPUT 1/2 jacks
The connections have been designed for balanced/unbalanced phone 1/4" jacks for main out-
put. You can connect mixers, powered speakers, or amplifiers. The analog outputs operate
with instrument-compatible levels of 2.0 Vrms.
L OUTPUT 3/4 jacks
The connections have been designed for balanced/unbalanced phone 1/4" jacks for monitor
output.
M DIGITAL IN jack
This digital audio jack is for the digital input of audio signals. The interface can receive sample
rates of up to 24-bit/96 kHz. The input signal can be adjusted in the Digital Mixer of the GO46
Control Panel. (See page 20.)
When recording from a digital source, make sure that the sampling rates of both devices (e.g.
DAT recorder and laptop) are synchronized. The S/PDIF protocol contains a signal called
wordclock for this purpose. If the Master Clock switch is set to “EXTERNAL” in the GO46 Con-
trol panel, the GO46 will automatically synchronize to it and the “DIGITAL IN” channel will be
available in the mixer.
ASIO applications such as Cubase often have an option to switch the hardware from an inter-
nal to an external (sometimes also called S/PDIF) clock source. This changeover currently has
no effect on the GO46.

N DIGITAL OUT jack
This digital audio jack is for the digital output of audio signals. The interface can transmit sam-
ple rates of up to 24-bit/96 kHz.
For playback, set the routing in the Control Panel to the digital output. AC3 and DTS can also
be played back via the digital output. Select “NON AUDIO” for the digital output in the Con-
trol Panel under “ROUTING”. (See page 22.) The non-audio signals are not sent to the analog
outputs.
O IEEE1394 (FireWire) port
Connects the GO46 system to your computer using the included IEEE1394 (FireWire) cable.
P MIDI IN jack
Connects MIDI devices such as MIDI keyboards and DAW controllers. For connecting MIDI
devices, connect the MIDI OUT terminal of the MIDI device to this jack using a MIDI cable.
Q MIDI OUT jack
Connects to MIDI devices such as synthesizers and tone generators. For connecting MIDI
devices, connect the MIDI IN terminal of the MIDI device to this jack using a MIDI cable. Con-
ventional DAW applications usually allow you to route incoming MIDI data through the OUT
jack, using the Thru (or MIDI Echo) function.
R DC IN jack
Connects the AC power adaptor to this jack.
17
Windows drivers
The GO46 audio interface features two kinds of audio drivers that support a variety of
applications. The audio drivers support all bit rates between 8 and 24 bits with all common
sample rates between 32 and 192 kHz. (Supports digital I/O up to 96 kHz)
MME driver
The Windows MME driver is a multi-channel driver that supports all six outputs (4 analog and 2
digital). The specific routing options for these drivers can be found in the GO46 Control Panel. In
most Windows programs, you will encounter MME drivers with the designation “GO46(GO46
(1)) In 1” for input channel and “GO46(GO46 (1)) MC Out” for output channel.
ASIO driver
ASIO (Audio Streaming Input Output) is an audio transfer protocol developed by Steinberg. The
advantage of the ASIO driver is the extremely low audio recording and playback delay times, also
known as latency. Values of around 5 ms on fast, cleanly configured systems — at sample rates
exceeding 96 kHz — are quite realistic. The format also supports sound cards with multiple
inputs and outputs — so-called multi-I/O cards, as well as direct monitoring and multi-client
mode (ASIO 2.0 or later). In the programs that make use of Steinberg’s ASIO interface, the ASIO
driver for the GO46 is listed as “ASIO GO4x.”

Drivers
For Cubase, the inputs are called “Line 1/2 left GO46”, “SPDIF left GO46”, etc. Also, the outputs
(generally called “busses” or “channels”) available in the individual programs are generally called
“Multichannel 1 GO46”, “SPDIF/AC3 left GO46”, etc.
Cubase LE
MIDI driver
This driver is for using the GO46 MIDI IN and MIDI OUT ports. The driver is designated as
“GO46(GO46 (1)) Midi In 1” (MIDI input) and “GO46(GO46 (1)) Midi Out 1” (MIDI output).
MIDI files, which can be played back using Windows’ media players, are also to be transferred to
externally connected devices such as synthesizers and tone generators. Open the “Sounds and
Audio Devices Properties” window from the Windows Control Panel, go to “Audio” and set the
“MIDI music playback” device to the driver mentioned above.
NOTE

Drivers
Mac OS X drivers
In Mac OS X, the GO46 system is supported completely by Apple CoreAudio and CoreMIDI.
Device-specific drivers are not required. If you would like to use the GO46 for the default system
sound output, select the GO46 audio driver in [System Preferences] [Sound] [Output].
The CoreAudio/MIDI driver can also be selected in DAW applications such as Cubase. Buffer sizes
generally can also be configured there to accelerate access to the audio system.

The GO46 Control Panel is quite intuitive and should not present beginners with major problems.
Here, depending on the requirements of each situation, you can have total control of the audio
interface, reduce levels, route inputs to any output or set the Master Clock values. The GO46
Control Panel has several windows. You can change windows by using the tabs in the upper left
of the Control Panel.
The functions and the positions of the control elements are generally identical between the two
platforms, Windows and Mac OS. The following example illustrations have been taken from the
Windows version of the Control Panel.
Digital Mixer
In the Digital Mixer page, you can control the digital mixer of the GO46.
If you are working with common DAW applications, you should also use the DAW for level control.
The advantage for doing this is that the settings are usually saved together with your project (song,
arrangement etc.)
ANALOG IN / DIGITAL IN
Here you can control the levels of analog input channels in the ANALOG IN column and digital
input channels in the DIGITAL IN column. Use the faders to control the levels of corresponding
channels. The [MUTE] buttons can be used to mute the individual channels.
A separate fader is available for each mono channel. The individual channels can be joined using
the switchable stereo link function. To turn on/off the stereo link function, click the [PAIR] button.
While the stereo link function is active, faders and mute operations are linked.
When recording a mono input signal such as a guitar, the [MONO] button is useful. When this
button is active, the input signal will remain in mono, but the monitor sound will be in stereo.
DIGITAL IN is grayed out until a signal is applied to the digital input and the MASTER CLOCK
under “Output & Settings” (page 21) is set to [EXTERNAL].
GO46 Control Panel
NOTE
NOTE
21
GO46 Control Panel
DAW IN 1/2, 3/4, 5/6
Here you can adjust the levels of the output signals sent from DAW applications.
As with the ANALOG IN / DIGITAL IN, a separate fader is available for each mono channel. The
individual channels can be joined using the switchable stereo link function (the [PAIR] button).
While the stereo link function is active, faders and mute operations are linked.
To send the mixed signal, [DIGITAL MIXER] must be assigned in the ROUTING section of the
Output & Settings window. (See page 22.) If [DIGITAL MIXER] is not assigned for any outputs,
the operation of the digital mixer is ignored.
MASTER
The overall playback level of the digital mixer can be set with the Master control. You can use the
stereo link function and mute operation.
Output & Settings
In the Output & Settings page, you can change sample rates, route inputs to outputs, and adjust
output levels.
MASTER CLOCK
This controls the sample rate used by the GO46. When digital inputs are not used, click the
[INTERNAL] button and select from all commonly used sample rates from 32 to 192 kHz from the
pull-down menu.
When external devices such as DAT recorders are connected, click the [EXTERNAL] button. The
external sample rate is displayed in the box next to the [EXTERNAL] button. If no signal is
available or the connection has been interrupted, the message “--------” will be returned.
If the setting is correctly working, the SYNC indicator lights up.
When a sample rate of 192kHz is selected, only the ANALOG IN (for audio inputs) and DAW IN 1/2 (for
audio outputs) columns are available.
When a sample rate of 192kHz is selected, avoid using MIDI inputs and outputs since this may cause some
noise and glitches in the sound.
NOTE
22
GO46 Control Panel
ROUTING
Selects the output signal sent from the OUTPUT 1/2, OUTPUT 3/4, and DIGITAL OUT jacks. All
input signals (DAW IN 1/2, DAW IN 3/4, DAW IN 5/6, ANALOG IN, DIGITAL IN, and DIGITAL
MIXER) can be routed to the three output pairs
*
. Click the three buttons on the left-hand side to
open a pull-down menu from which you can select the desired pair. If you intend to use the
digital mixer, [DIGITAL MIXER] must also be selected on the input side, otherwise the signal will
be sent straight to the output, bypassing the faders.
OUTPUT
The levels of the OUTPUT 1/2 and OUTPUT 3/4 can be controlled here. The individual faders
control the levels of the analog signal output from the D/A converter. A separate fader is available
for each mono channel. The individual channels can be joined using the switchable stereo link
function. As in the Digital Mixer window, the [MUTE] buttons can be used to mute the individual
channels and the [PAIR] buttons can be used for the stereo link function.
The fader operation in the OUTPUT section can also be completely linked with the Master knob
on the front panel.
The ASIO control panel (Windows only)
Selects a latency value (delay in playing the audio signals) when using the ASIO driver. To open
the ASIO panel, click the [ASIO] button on the bottom left side of the Output & Settings window.
If the value is too low (and the sample rate too high), this will negatively affect the performance
of your overall system, introducing noise and dropouts.
A more powerful computer will support a lower latency setting. With a fast system, you should
achieve values of less than 5ms at 96kHz. If problems occur, increase the latency as needed.
Further options are generally available on the relevant panels of ASIO applications such as
Cubase, etc.
* For the DIGITAL OUT jack, you can select
“NON AUDIO” (as shown above). In this
case, AC3 and DTS data will be transmitted
only via the digital output.
23
GO46 Control Panel
The SCENES panel
Saves/calls up scenes. A scene is a file in which the Control Panel settings are saved (except
settings in the MASTER CLOCK column; page 21). Save the scene and call up the file, and the
settings can be reloaded whenever necessary. To open the SCENES panel in Windows, click the
[SCENES] button on the bottom left side of the Output & Settings window; on the Macintosh,
select [File] [SCENES] from the GO46 menu.
To save a scene, input a name for the scene in the box located to the left of the [SAVE] button
and click the [SAVE] button. To load or delete a saved scene, select the desired scene name from
the box and click the [LOAD] or [DELETE] button.
ABOUT
The ABOUT page of the GO46 Control Panel gives you all of the relevant facts on your Control
Panel, audio drivers, firmware version, and operating system.

The GO46 won’t turn on.
Is the supplied power adaptor properly plugged into both the GO46 and an appropriate AC
wall outlet?
If you are using a 4–pin/6–pin IEEE1394 (FireWire) adaptor to connect the GO46 to the com-
puter with a 4–pin type IEEE1394 (FireWire) port, use the included AC power adaptor. (See
page 7.)
The system doesn’t work properly.
Are you using an IEEE1394 (FireWire) Repeater?
IEEE1394 (FireWire) Repeater hubs can interfere with proper operation, so try connecting the
GO46 directly to an IEEE1394 (FireWire) port on the computer. If the computer has multiple
IEEE1394 (FireWire) ports, try a different port.
If you are using other IEEE1394 (FireWire) devices at the same time, try removing the other
device(s) and connecting only the Yamaha IEEE1394 (FireWire) device.
Does your computer satisfy the system requirements? (See page 25.)
(For Windows) Install the driver again.
(For Windows) Cannot install the driver.

Are speakers or headphones connected correctly?
Is your amp and other external devices turned on?
Is the signal from the external device being input?
Are all the level settings (of any tone generators, audio devices, application software, computer
operating system, etc.) appropriate?
Are the output channels muted in the OS (computer) or the GO46 Control Panel?
The connection cable from the external device may be broken.
Is the wordclock setting correct for both the GO46 and the external device(s)? (See page 21.)
Is the output jack for the audio data assigned in the DAW software (Cubase LE, etc.)?
For details, refer to the respective owner’s manual.
Try disconnecting the IEEE1394 (FireWire) cable and after a while connect it again.

Troubleshooting
27
Troubleshooting
Noise is audible.
(For Windows) Is the latency setting of the ASIO Driver appropriate? (See page 22.)
(For Windows) When using Cubase LE with a computer which the Hyper Threading is on, set as
follows on Cubase LE.
Select [Devices] [Device Setup] [VST Multitrack] [Expert] and check the box to the left
of “Multi Processing” and click [OK].
(For Windows) Setting Hyper Threading to off in the BIOS settings may solve the problem.
Is the wordclock setting correct for both the GO46 and the external device(s)? (See page 21.)
If the speed of your computer’s hard disk is slow, problems may occur during recording and
playback.
If you connect/disconnect the LAN, USB or the cables to the mini jacks terminals you are using
while recording/playback, some noise may be caused and/or data may be cut off. Make sure
that you do not insert or unplug any connections while recording/playback.
Is the sample rate (wordclock) appropriate? A high sample rate can be the cause of the noise
depending on the computer capacity and speed. (See page 21.)
Use of MIDI inputs and outputs when the sample rate is set to 192kHz may cause some noise
and glitches in the sound. Do not use MIDI inputs and outputs when the sample rate is set to
192 kHz.
Try disconnecting the IEEE1394 (FireWire) cable and after a while connect it again.
Cannot resume or suspend the computer correctly.
To protect the data you are working on, the computer prevents resuming or suspending the
computer while the DAW applications/sequencer software is active. Close the application to
resume or suspend your computer.

When connecting devices to the INPUT jacks on both the front and rear panels, the input on the front panel takes precedence and will automatically be active. B [GAIN 1]/[GAIN 2] knobs Controls the preamplification of the signal being applied to INPUT 1/2 on the front/rear panel. NOTE While recording, make sure to record at the highest level possible (without distortion or clipping) to get the greatest benefit from the wide dynamic range of the 24-bit converter. Always remember that a properly recorded, clean take is far more valuable than having to use the best corrective plug-in to fix an inferior take. C SIGNAL and CLIP LED Provides visual level monitoring of the signal to be recorded on INPUT 1/2 on the front/rear panel. The lower blue LED indicates the presence of a signal, while the upper red one indicates an overload of the input converter. D [+48V] switch Supplies +48 V phantom power to INPUT 1/2 on the front panel. Turn this switch on if you are connecting a condenser microphone that requires external +48 V power. Observe the following precautions when turning on phantom power. ■ Make sure that the PHANTOM switch is off when phantom power is not needed. ■ Make sure that no equipment other than phantom-powered microphones is connected to the inputs 1 and 2 jacks on the front panel when turning phantom power on. Applying phantom power to equipment other than phantompowered microphones can damage the equipment. The exception to this rule is balanced dynamic microphones, which can safely be left connected while phantom power is applied to input jacks 1 and 2. ■ To minimize the possibility of speaker damage, turn phantom power on ONLY while your power amplifier or powered speakers are switched off. It’s also a good idea to turn the mixers output controls — [MASTER] knob and HEADPHONE LEVEL knob — all the way down when turning phantom power on. 13 Connectors and controls E [MASTER] knob Controls the levels of the analog outputs (OUTPUT 1/2 or OUTPUT 3/4). The output pair to be controlled can be selected via the Push function (OUTPUT 1/2 or OUTPUT 3/4 or both jacks). The output pair currently being controlled can be monitored by the MAIN/MONITOR LED. In addition, pressing and holding the knob for 2 seconds or more will mute the channels currently being controlled. This can be used to switch back and forth between two monitor speaker sets for a direct comparison. This function is also available via the GO46 Control Panel. (See page 20.) F MAIN and MONITOR LED Indicates the output pair currently being controlled by the master or muted. The MAIN LED corresponds to OUTPUT 1/2 jacks, MONITOR LED to OUTPUT 3/4. The following overview describes the operation and displays: MAIN LED MONITOR LED MASTER controls: Press and hold MASTER: On Off OUTPUT 1/2 level OUTPUT 1/2 muted Off On OUTPUT 3/4 level OUTPUT 3/4 muted On On OUTPUT 1/2, 3/4 level OUTPUT 1/2, 3/4 muted Flashing Off OUTPUT 1/2 level (OUTPUT 1/2 muted) OUTPUT 1/2 unmuted Flashing On OUTPUT 3/4 level (OUTPUT 1/2 remains muted) OUTPUT 1/2, 3/4 muted Off Flashing OUTPUT 3/4 level (OUTPUT 3/4 muted) OUTPUT 3/4 unmuted On Flashing OUTPUT 1/2 level (OUTPUT 3/4 remains muted) OUTPUT 1/2, 3/4 muted Flashing Flashing OUTPUT 1/2, 3/4 level (OUTPUT 1/2, 3/4 muted) OUTPUT 1/2, 3/4 unmuted G HEADPHONE LEVEL knob Adjusts the output level of the PHONES jack. H PHONES jack Output for a 1/4" stereo headphone jack. The signal from OUTPUT 3/4 on the rear panel is always available at the PHONES jack. The actual signal available there depends on the routing, which you can set up to suit your needs in the GO46 Control Panel. (See page 20.) 14 Connectors and controls Rear Panel 9 J K L O M N P Q R I INPUT 1/2 jacks J K L M The GO46 System features two high-quality analog mono inputs. The connections have been designed for balanced/unbalanced phone 1/4" jacks. The gain for these inputs can also be set using the GAIN knobs on the front panel. When connecting devices to the INPUT jacks on both the front and rear panels, the input on the front panel takes precedence and will automatically be active. INSERT 1/2 jacks These are 1/4" stereo headphone jacks for channel insert ins and outs. External effects such as compressors and effect processors can be inserted into the recording path before the signal is sent to the A/D converter. OUTPUT 1/2 jacks The connections have been designed for balanced/unbalanced phone 1/4" jacks for main output. You can connect mixers, powered speakers, or amplifiers. The analog outputs operate with instrument-compatible levels of 2.0 Vrms. OUTPUT 3/4 jacks The connections have been designed for balanced/unbalanced phone 1/4" jacks for monitor output. DIGITAL IN jack This digital audio jack is for the digital input of audio signals. The interface can receive sample rates of up to 24-bit/96 kHz. The input signal can be adjusted in the Digital Mixer of the GO46 Control Panel. (See page 20.) When recording from a digital source, make sure that the sampling rates of both devices (e.g. DAT recorder and laptop) are synchronized. The S/PDIF protocol contains a signal called wordclock for this purpose. If the Master Clock switch is set to “EXTERNAL” in the GO46 Control panel, the GO46 will automatically synchronize to it and the “DIGITAL IN” channel will be available in the mixer. ASIO applications such as Cubase often have an option to switch the hardware from an internal to an external (sometimes also called S/PDIF) clock source. This changeover currently has no effect on the GO46. 15 Connectors and controls N DIGITAL OUT jack O P Q R 16 This digital audio jack is for the digital output of audio signals. The interface can transmit sample rates of up to 24-bit/96 kHz. For playback, set the routing in the Control Panel to the digital output. AC3 and DTS can also be played back via the digital output. Select “NON AUDIO” for the digital output in the Control Panel under “ROUTING”. (See page 22.) The non-audio signals are not sent to the analog outputs. IEEE1394 (FireWire) port Connects the GO46 system to your computer using the included IEEE1394 (FireWire) cable. MIDI IN jack Connects MIDI devices such as MIDI keyboards and DAW controllers. For connecting MIDI devices, connect the MIDI OUT terminal of the MIDI device to this jack using a MIDI cable. MIDI OUT jack Connects to MIDI devices such as synthesizers and tone generators. For connecting MIDI devices, connect the MIDI IN terminal of the MIDI device to this jack using a MIDI cable. Conventional DAW applications usually allow you to route incoming MIDI data through the OUT jack, using the Thru (or MIDI Echo) function. DC IN jack Connects the AC power adaptor to this jack. Drivers Windows drivers The GO46 audio interface features two kinds of audio drivers that support a variety of applications. The audio drivers support all bit rates between 8 and 24 bits with all common sample rates between 32 and 192 kHz. (Supports digital I/O up to 96 kHz) MME driver The Windows MME driver is a multi-channel driver that supports all six outputs (4 analog and 2 digital). The specific routing options for these drivers can be found in the GO46 Control Panel. In most Windows programs, you will encounter MME drivers with the designation “GO46(GO46 (1)) In 1” for input channel and “GO46(GO46 (1)) MC Out” for output channel. ASIO driver ASIO (Audio Streaming Input Output) is an audio transfer protocol developed by Steinberg. The advantage of the ASIO driver is the extremely low audio recording and playback delay times, also known as latency. Values of around 5 ms on fast, cleanly configured systems — at sample rates exceeding 96 kHz — are quite realistic. The format also supports sound cards with multiple inputs and outputs — so-called multi-I/O cards, as well as direct monitoring and multi-client mode (ASIO 2.0 or later). In the programs that make use of Steinberg’s ASIO interface, the ASIO driver for the GO46 is listed as “ASIO GO4x.” Cubase LE 17 Drivers For Cubase, the inputs are called “Line 1/2 left GO46”, “SPDIF left GO46”, etc. Also, the outputs (generally called “busses” or “channels”) available in the individual programs are generally called “Multichannel 1 GO46”, “SPDIF/AC3 left GO46”, etc. Cubase LE MIDI driver This driver is for using the GO46 MIDI IN and MIDI OUT ports. The driver is designated as “GO46(GO46 (1)) Midi In 1” (MIDI input) and “GO46(GO46 (1)) Midi Out 1” (MIDI output). NOTE MIDI files, which can be played back using Windows’ media players, are also to be transferred to externally connected devices such as synthesizers and tone generators. Open the “Sounds and Audio Devices Properties” window from the Windows Control Panel, go to “Audio” and set the “MIDI music playback” device to the driver mentioned above. 18 Drivers Mac OS X drivers In Mac OS X, the GO46 system is supported completely by Apple CoreAudio and CoreMIDI. Device-specific drivers are not required. If you would like to use the GO46 for the default system sound output, select the GO46 audio driver in [System Preferences] → [Sound] → [Output]. The CoreAudio/MIDI driver can also be selected in DAW applications such as Cubase. Buffer sizes generally can also be configured there to accelerate access to the audio system. Cubase LE 19 GO46 Control Panel The GO46 Control Panel is quite intuitive and should not present beginners with major problems. Here, depending on the requirements of each situation, you can have total control of the audio interface, reduce levels, route inputs to any output or set the Master Clock values. The GO46 Control Panel has several windows. You can change windows by using the tabs in the upper left of the Control Panel. NOTE The functions and the positions of the control elements are generally identical between the two platforms, Windows and Mac OS. The following example illustrations have been taken from the Windows version of the Control Panel. Digital Mixer In the Digital Mixer page, you can control the digital mixer of the GO46. NOTE If you are working with common DAW applications, you should also use the DAW for level control. The advantage for doing this is that the settings are usually saved together with your project (song, arrangement etc.) ANALOG IN / DIGITAL IN Here you can control the levels of analog input channels in the ANALOG IN column and digital input channels in the DIGITAL IN column. Use the faders to control the levels of corresponding channels. The [MUTE] buttons can be used to mute the individual channels. A separate fader is available for each mono channel. The individual channels can be joined using the switchable stereo link function. To turn on/off the stereo link function, click the [PAIR] button. While the stereo link function is active, faders and mute operations are linked. When recording a mono input signal such as a guitar, the [MONO] button is useful. When this button is active, the input signal will remain in mono, but the monitor sound will be in stereo. DIGITAL IN is grayed out until a signal is applied to the digital input and the MASTER CLOCK under “Output & Settings” (page 21) is set to [EXTERNAL]. 20 GO46 Control Panel DAW IN 1/2, 3/4, 5/6 Here you can adjust the levels of the output signals sent from DAW applications. As with the ANALOG IN / DIGITAL IN, a separate fader is available for each mono channel. The individual channels can be joined using the switchable stereo link function (the [PAIR] button). While the stereo link function is active, faders and mute operations are linked. To send the mixed signal, [DIGITAL MIXER] must be assigned in the ROUTING section of the Output & Settings window. (See page 22.) If [DIGITAL MIXER] is not assigned for any outputs, the operation of the digital mixer is ignored. MASTER The overall playback level of the digital mixer can be set with the Master control. You can use the stereo link function and mute operation. Output & Settings In the Output & Settings page, you can change sample rates, route inputs to outputs, and adjust output levels. MASTER CLOCK This controls the sample rate used by the GO46. When digital inputs are not used, click the [INTERNAL] button and select from all commonly used sample rates from 32 to 192 kHz from the pull-down menu. When external devices such as DAT recorders are connected, click the [EXTERNAL] button. The external sample rate is displayed in the box next to the [EXTERNAL] button. If no signal is available or the connection has been interrupted, the message “--------” will be returned. If the setting is correctly working, the SYNC indicator lights up. NOTE • When a sample rate of 192kHz is selected, only the ANALOG IN (for audio inputs) and DAW IN 1/2 (for audio outputs) columns are available. • When a sample rate of 192kHz is selected, avoid using MIDI inputs and outputs since this may cause some noise and glitches in the sound. 21 GO46 Control Panel ROUTING Selects the output signal sent from the OUTPUT 1/2, OUTPUT 3/4, and DIGITAL OUT jacks. All input signals (DAW IN 1/2, DAW IN 3/4, DAW IN 5/6, ANALOG IN, DIGITAL IN, and DIGITAL MIXER) can be routed to the three output pairs*. Click the three buttons on the left-hand side to open a pull-down menu from which you can select the desired pair. If you intend to use the digital mixer, [DIGITAL MIXER] must also be selected on the input side, otherwise the signal will be sent straight to the output, bypassing the faders. * For the DIGITAL OUT jack, you can select “NON AUDIO” (as shown above). In this case, AC3 and DTS data will be transmitted only via the digital output. OUTPUT The levels of the OUTPUT 1/2 and OUTPUT 3/4 can be controlled here. The individual faders control the levels of the analog signal output from the D/A converter. A separate fader is available for each mono channel. The individual channels can be joined using the switchable stereo link function. As in the Digital Mixer window, the [MUTE] buttons can be used to mute the individual channels and the [PAIR] buttons can be used for the stereo link function. The fader operation in the OUTPUT section can also be completely linked with the Master knob on the front panel. The ASIO control panel (Windows only) Selects a latency value (delay in playing the audio signals) when using the ASIO driver. To open the ASIO panel, click the [ASIO] button on the bottom left side of the Output & Settings window. If the value is too low (and the sample rate too high), this will negatively affect the performance of your overall system, introducing noise and dropouts. A more powerful computer will support a lower latency setting. With a fast system, you should achieve values of less than 5ms at 96kHz. If problems occur, increase the latency as needed. Further options are generally available on the relevant panels of ASIO applications such as Cubase, etc. 22 GO46 Control Panel The SCENES panel Saves/calls up scenes. A scene is a file in which the Control Panel settings are saved (except settings in the MASTER CLOCK column; page 21). Save the scene and call up the file, and the settings can be reloaded whenever necessary. To open the SCENES panel in Windows, click the [SCENES] button on the bottom left side of the Output & Settings window; on the Macintosh, select [File] → [SCENES] from the GO46 menu. To save a scene, input a name for the scene in the box located to the left of the [SAVE] button and click the [SAVE] button. Is the supplied power adaptor properly plugged into both the GO46 and an appropriate AC wall outlet? If you are using a 4–pin/6–pin IEEE1394 (FireWire) adaptor to connect the GO46 to the computer with a 4–pin type IEEE1394 (FireWire) port, use the included AC power adaptor. (See page 7.) • • ■ The system doesn’t work properly. Are you using an IEEE1394 (FireWire) Repeater? IEEE1394 (FireWire) Repeater hubs can interfere with proper operation, so try connecting the GO46 directly to an IEEE1394 (FireWire) port on the computer. If the computer has multiple IEEE1394 (FireWire) ports, try a different port. If you are using other IEEE1394 (FireWire) devices at the same time, try removing the other device(s) and connecting only the Yamaha IEEE1394 (FireWire) device. Does your computer satisfy the system requirements? (See page 25.) (For Windows) Install the driver again. • • • • ■ (For Windows) Cannot install the driver. Does your computer satisfy the system requirements? (See page 25.) Install the driver again. • • ■ (For Windows) The “Found New Hardware Wizard” window is displayed. Is the driver installed? (See page 8.) Cancel the Wizard and install the driver again. • • ■ No sound or very low volume level Are speakers or headphones connected correctly? Is your amp and other external devices turned on? Is the signal from the external device being input? Are all the level settings (of any tone generators, audio devices, application software, computer operating system, etc.) appropriate? Are the output channels muted in the OS (computer) or the GO46 Control Panel? The connection cable from the external device may be broken. Is the wordclock setting correct for both the GO46 and the external device(s)? (See page 21.) Is the output jack for the audio data assigned in the DAW software (Cubase LE, etc.)? For details, refer to the respective owner’s manual. Try disconnecting the IEEE1394 (FireWire) cable and after a while connect it again. • • • • • • • • • ■ Distorted sound Does your computer satisfy the system requirements? (See page 25.) Is the [GAIN] control set correctly? (See page 13.) The connection cable from the external device may be broken. Is the wordclock setting correct for both the GO46 and the external device(s)? (See page 21.) Make sure audio data was recorded at an appropriate level. • • • • • 26 Troubleshooting ■ Noise is audible. (For Windows) Is the latency setting of the ASIO Driver appropriate? (See page 22.) (For Windows) When using Cubase LE with a computer which the Hyper Threading is on, set as follows on Cubase LE. Select [Devices] → [Device Setup] → [VST Multitrack] → [Expert] and check the box to the left of “Multi Processing” and click [OK]. (For Windows) Setting Hyper Threading to off in the BIOS settings may solve the problem. Is the wordclock setting correct for both the GO46 and the external device(s)? (See page 21.) If the speed of your computer’s hard disk is slow, problems may occur during recording and playback. If you connect/disconnect the LAN, USB or the cables to the mini jacks terminals you are using while recording/playback, some noise may be caused and/or data may be cut off. Make sure that you do not insert or unplug any connections while recording/playback. Is the sample rate (wordclock) appropriate? A high sample rate can be the cause of the noise depending on the computer capacity and speed. (See page 21.) Use of MIDI inputs and outputs when the sample rate is set to 192kHz may cause some noise and glitches in the sound. Do not use MIDI inputs and outputs when the sample rate is set to 192 kHz. Try disconnecting the IEEE1394 (FireWire) cable and after a while connect it again. • • • • • • • • • ■ Cannot resume or suspend the computer correctly. To protect the data you are working on, the computer prevents resuming or suspending the computer while the DAW applications/sequencer software is active. Close the application to resume or suspend your computer. • 27 GO46WIN INSTALL_pdfE.book Page 28 Monday, February 6, 2006 2:20 PM For details of products, please contact your nearest Yamaha representative or the authorized distributor listed below.
